Office of the Chancellor

The Office of the Chancellor sees to it that curial acts are drawn up, authenticated, expedited, and safeguarded in the archives. Annual statistical data is collected to provide reports to the Vatican, the Official Catholic Directory, Catholic Conferences, and to publish the Diocesan Directory.
 

Letters of Suitability: The Office of the Chancellor processes all Letters of Good Standing.

• Clergy, Religious, and Laity WITHIN the Diocese of Brownsville 
  The Chancellor provides Letters of Good Standing for our priests and deacons traveling to other dioceses.
  Please submit requests at least two (2) weeks in advance.
• Clergy, Religious, and Laity from OUTSIDE the Diocese of Brownsville.
  All Letters of Good Standing for visitors will be processed through the Office of the Chancellor. Please note that all visitors (Clergy/Religious/Laity) engaging in any type of ministry will require a Letter of Good Standing.
  Letters should be addressed to the Chancellor, Rev. Andres E. Gutierrez.

  Letters should be received at least one (1) week before the event.

Marriage Files
Any Marriage File involving two different parishes – whether between two different dioceses or two parishes within the Diocese of Brownsville – should be sent to the Office of the Chancellor for review and approval.
- For weddings within the United States, marriage files should be received at least one (1) month before the wedding date.
- For weddings outside the United States, marriage files should be received at least six (6) weeks before the wedding date.

Marriage Dispensations and Permissions 
All marriage dispensations and permissions are processed through the Diocesan Tribunal. Please contact Tribunal at 956-784-5070 for questions related to marriage permissions or dispensations.
